Wire Rope

Wire ropes are being dynamically used in lifts and heavy crane. They are fit for heavy mechanical work such as lifting heavyweight. Wire ropes are basically several strands of metal wires that are twisted into a helix forming a composite rope. Due to their sturdy nature and high tensile strength, they are being widely used in many manufacturing industries. SOME OF STANDARD SIZES OF WIRE ROPES WITH MULTIPLE APPLICATIONS:-

- 6 x 19S, 6 x 31S, 6 x 37S (Seale Group)

Flexible Tractor Haulage Rope, Log Carriage Ropes, General Winch Ropes, Oil Well Drilling Lines, Transporter and Grab Ropes, Cargo Faijs, Crane Ropes, Slings, Marine Mooring Ropes (6 x 15/1s/6/1).

- 6 x 25FW, 6 x 36FW, 6 x 41FW 6 x43FW (Filler Wire Group)

Excavator Hoisting and Boom Suspension Ropes in the larger Sizes, Large Sky lines, Cranes.

- 6 x 31SW 6 x 36SW 6 x 41SW (Seals Warrington Group)

Application same as Filler Wire group but these ropes are more flexible and offer better resistance to abrasion bending fatigue and heavy bearing pressures.

FEATURES :

- This construction group ropes are having large number of wires in each strand thus offering maximum flexibility although at the cost of reduction in resistance to abrasion and crushing on sheaves.
- These ropes can be used for high speed with small compact drum and sheave arrangement. However due care must be taken to maintain close tolerances on sheaved grooves.
- As the number of wires in the outer layer increases, the resistance to bending fatigue, vibrations and shock loading increases; while resistance to abrasion and crushing reduces.

APPLICATIONS :

- Builders hoists, trawl warps, slings.

- 7 x 19 (12/6/1)

- Small winch ropes, suspension bridge cables, guys, tawling, yatch running, rigging.

- 6x37 (18/12/6/1)

- Crane Hoist Rope, Water Front Luffing Crane Boom Suspension Ropes, Marine Hawsers, Towing Lines, Slipway Drag and Haulage Ropes, Suspension Bridge Cables.

FEATURES :

These are the most widely used ropes and find broad applications in industry as they have good resistance to abrasive wear particularly over sheaves.

- They offer moderate crushing resistance & are largely being covered in all the standards.
- Cross laid ropes are more flexible than parallel laid ropes of the same construction group owing to existence of finer wires. However parallel laid ropes are more popular due to their superior compactness and no crossing over of wires.
- These ropes are most easily available.
- These cross laid ropes are covered in very few limited standards and hence the users are advised to adapt relevant standards keeping compatibility of equipment in mind.

APPLICIITIONS (8 * 19 GROUP)

- 8 x 19 (12/6/1)

Used mainly for Small Workshop Hoist and Slings.

- 8 x 19 Seale (9/9/1)*

- Elevator Hoist and Compensator Ropes. Tag Lines on shovels, Grab Hoiding and Closing Lines.

FEATURES :

- These ropes are available with fibre core only, as the applications call for severe bending. They have lower breaking strength as compared to 6 strand ropes owing to lower area of steel cross section and higher area of fibre cross section. The larger sized cores make them more resistant to shock loading and vibration but less resistant to distortion and crushing.
- Elevator ropes are manufactured with Sisal Core in order to provide better support. They are also made from low tensile grade steel owing to requirement of high resistance to reverse bending.

APPLICIITIONS MARINE GROUP

- 6 x7 is used Stack and Structural Guying.

- 6 x24 is used medium crane duty. Towines and Hawsers, Mooring lines.

- 6 x 12 Group is used for cargo rigging.

FEATURES :

- These ropes are generally galvanized fibre core ropes. Galvanized coating too should be of heavy type to prevent corrosion in marine environment.
